Kids Company was founded in December 1996 by Camila Batmanghelidjh to
provide emotional, practical and educational support to profoundly vulnerable young people.
Kids Company service delivery points are 32 inner city schools and a children's centre at street-level (Arches II), as well as a post-sixteen educational programme (The Urban Academy). The services offered by Kids Company are holistic and multi-disciplinary. Some 11,000 children receive services from us annually. The organisation has an average of 1400 volunteers annually.
A recent evaluation by the University Of Exeter demonstrated that approximately £2.6 million worth of services and goods are contributed voluntarily, complimenting an annual budget of approximately £4.5 million.

The organisation is based upon psychotherapeutic principles and seeks to provide an environment where relationships of empathy and attachment can be fostered between young people and trusted adults.
The organisation is inclusive, child focused and views behavioural difficulties in the context of emotional hurt.
Our young service users commonly suffer significant mental health and emotional difficulties due to experiences of neglect, sexual, and physical, emotional abuse, and exposure to violence and drugs. Despite these challenges our client group are dignified, courageous and intelligent.
Kids Company perceives the child to be our primary client to whom we are accountable: everybody else is our secondary client whose needs we will meet provided they meet the needs of the child.
Kids Company started off life in a railway arch in South London and grew to eight arches, to include provision of hot meals, arts and sports activities, learning support, social services, and counselling for any children or young people who self-referred.
